The A59 at Kex Gill between Harrogate and Skipton is a main cross Pennine route. Over the years it has been subject to a long history of landslips leading to frequent road closures and long diversions. These seem to be getting more frequent.
James Malcolm will give a background to the problem and describe what monitoring and on-going management measures North Yorkshire County Council are taking, as well as some details of the short term repair works that were carried out recently.
The long term solution can however only be moving the road away from the land instability.
Rebecca Gibson will give an over view of the problems that the Council have faced in developing a suitable diversion scheme in such a challenging and heavily protected landscape, and will present the solution that is now being proposed and for which funding is being sought.
Tea and coffee will be served at registration for the meeting, at no charge to members. Following the meeting a cash bar will be open and a hot and cold self-service buffet will be served, to be ordered in advance when booking for the meeting and paid in cash at registration. The cost for lunch will be £14 per person and £2 for dessert.
If you book but later you find that you are unable to attend, provided that you notify the Hon Sec not later than the booking deadline below, you will not be charged. If you cancel after that we will endeavour to make an adjustment with the venue so that you may not have to pay, but we reserve the right to request reimbursement from you if that isn’t possible.
If you wish to book for this meeting, please advise the RICE Hon Secretary not later than 11.00 on Friday 23 November 2018.
You may do that by e-mail to email@example.com, or by a note in the post to: Hugh Allan, 8 West End Close, Horsforth, Leeds LS18 5JN, or by telephone on 0113 259 1095.
Note: RICE meetings are open to all members of ICE and to members of other organisations with whom the ICE has a reciprocal arrangement, such as IET and IMechE. Additionally, RICE members may invite a guest to a RICE ordinary meeting, twice a year.
