This event will comprise a walk around the Albert Dock estate during which a commentary will be provided about the history of the original dock development in the 1840s. This will include reference to the construction of both the river and dock walls and the warehouses with specific references to the engineer behind the development – Jesse Hartley.
After the event there will be a further networking opportunity at the Pump House, public house.
Attendees are requested to meet outside the front entrance to the Dock Traffic Office.

The total length of the walk is approximately 1km. Attendees are requested to wear suitable footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions on the day.
Jim is a retired Chartered Civil Engineer and formerly Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University. Prior to going to the University worked extensively on the Survey, Site Investigation and design of the Mersey Estuary Pollution Alleviation Scheme throughout the whole of the Liverpool Dock Estate. Jim is current chairman of the ICE NW Historical Engineering Special Interest Group.
