Following the decision to declare a climate emergency, Bristol City Council set the ambitious goal of becoming a climate resilient and carbon neutral city by 2030, 20 years ahead of UK Government targets. Recognising that this needed input from across the city and its organisations, the One City Environment Board led the development of the strategy to create a pathway to reach this challenging aim, one which requires a radical rethink of how people in the city live, work and invest, and that would act as a call for action to the city’s people and businesses. Bristol hopes to lead the way for other cities to achieve net zero.
Ann Cousins,& co-chair of Bristol’s One City Environment Board and an Associate at Arup, will present an overview of Bristol’s One City Climate Strategy, which was launched in February 2020. She will explore the evidence base for its development and the city’s progress to date, including the impact and changes in approach to delivery as a result Covid-19.

Ann is co-chair of Bristol’s One City Environment Board and an Associate at Arup. She works with cities and organisations to provide strategic advice on climate change and sustainability. Ann has worked for Arup for over a decade and leads a climate change team across the South West and Wales.
She has worked globally with organisations such as 100 Resilient Cities and the C40, but having lived in Bristol for nearly 20 years, is particularly passionate about bringing her expertise to her home city.
