Re-use of single use plastics in road construction, Warrington

About this event

We will hear about a solution to two major problems we face in the UK; the state of our roads and the excessive plastic waste we are producing.

MacRebur started in 2016; using the inspiration of watching Indian ' waste pickers' picking through landfill sites and then shoving waste plastic into a pothole at the entrance to the site, pouring petrol over the top and setting it on fire. This created a super strong surface pothole filler.

Over the past 3 years MacRebur have been using this inspiration to change the way they construct roads, taking some of the oil derived bitumen out of the mix and using plastic waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill or incineration. This leads to a saving in CO2 and reduces the amount of surplus plastic waste. Local councils have started using the product, as well as some of the big contractors.

Light refreshments will be available from 18:00 with the presentation to start at 18:30.

UTC Warrington is close to Warrington Central Train Station and Warrington Bus Station.

Please note there is no parking available on site but there are multiple car parks close by.

Organised by ICE Cheshire branch and Institute of Highway Engineers.
