Unconscious Bias, Manchester

About this event

Unconscious bias is where we simply cannot process everything about each new person or situation we encounter. As a result, information about people and objects is suppressed, grouped and placed into easy to use categories. This enables us to make rapid judgments about new people and situations without having to process every detail about the individual and context.

We tend to form positive categories and associations for people who are like us (physically but also socially) which leads to more negative categories for those who are not like us. This may impact our behaviours and decision making in our professional and personal lives in subtle ways which bypass our self-awareness.

Join the ICE for an eye-opening insight into unconscious bias with Kathleen Harrison of Jacobs and Building Equality.

Refreshments and networking from 18:00, with the talk to start at 18:30.

Organised by ICE North West Graduates & Students Committee.
