The Severn Valley Line
Retired or planning your retirement? Why not keep in touch with civil engineers through ICE West Midlands Senior Civil Engineers Group. The group is open to all civil engineers but mostly consists of retired members, who meet on the first Thursday in March, June, October and December.
The next meeting will take place on 5 December during which ICE Fellow, Alan Reade, will give an illustrated talk, describing how as a teenager, he became inspired to become a civil engineer by the great 18th century pioneers and their biographer Tom Rolt. He will discuss his early practical volunteering to restore disappearing Welsh narrow gauge railways and the history and gradual restoration of the standard-gauge former GWR Severn Valley Line. Additionally, Alan, as a founding patron of the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust, will talk about his fund-raising activities.
Please note this is a payable event.
