Since the 1970s the construction of a new station at Norton, to improve the rail links of the county, has been part of the plans for improving Worcestershire’s infrastructure connections.
As part of the 3rd Worcestershire Local Transport Plan the station was considered the county’s top priority. In 2012 The Department of Transport Rail office gave the scheme its formal support.
Over the intervening period between 2012 and 2017 funding and approvals have been secured allowing commencement of the project in September 2017. Since then, significant progress has been made and the project is nearing the latter stages in preparation for opening later this year.
This will significantly enhance Worcestershire’s connectivity with the UK’s key economies and encourage economic growth and development within the county.
The new station is pivotal to the County Council’s county wide rail strategy, and to its ambitious growth plans to boost the County’s economic value to £2.9bn, creating 25,000 new jobs by 2025.
