RNIB’s Disability Confident campaign

About this event

To raise awareness of how we can support them in supporting employees who are blind and partially sighted. As a Disability Confident Leader, we want to increase employers' knowledge and understanding about recruiting, or retaining, blind or partially sighted people in the workplace.

  • Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) promotes the interests of blind and partially sighted people and those at risk of sight loss, across the UK
  • RNIB has more than 33,000 members in our Connect community, the vast majority of whom have sight loss
  • RNIB’s ambition is to change the world for those living with, and at risk of, sight loss
  • 1 in 4 blind and partially sighted people in employment do not receive any adjustments and, as a result continue to leave work unnecessarily
  • RNIB take action to prevent avoidable sight loss, provide support and services to enable independence and campaign to create a fully inclusive society
  • RNIB campaign to remove barriers to blind and partially sighted people taking part in an inclusive society. Examples include transport, education, employment, benefits and accessible information

Within our retention service we are working to prevent the following situations:

  • Lack of support to remain in work
  • Lack of knowledge of assistive technology and reasonable adjustments

The RNIB are doing this by working in collaboration with employers and using their expertise and knowledge around supporting blind and partially sighted people in employment, to provide training. There is currently no cost attached to the training.
