Overview

The A30 is Cornwall's motorway. It is the backbone of the county, both geographically and as a transport corridor - if the A30 doesn't work well, neither does Cornwall's economy. The ongoing upgrade project is a vital part of making the A30 work for Cornwall.

National Highways, the Costain Jacobs Joint Venture, plus a diverse supply chain, have been working since 2020 to deliver the scheme, which will unblock the last section of single carriageway road between the M5 motorway and Camborne by building a new 8.7 mile long section of dual carriageway road, with grade separated junctions at Chiverton, Chybucca and Carland Cross.

The project will also retain and de-trunk the existing A30 for local traffic and provide additional provision for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

In this talk, members of the project team will explain the planning, design and construction of this major highways infrastructure project and its many elements, including the carriageway itself, the associated infrastructure including new bridges, and the key links to the local road network.
