Overview

The COVID-19 plight lead to the creation of this tour series which also inspires the Student & Graduate members network to showcase their contribution and depict how ICE assisted them along their journey. The tour was initially launched in 2020 across 6 countries but now it will be presented as a single event across SEA in 2023.

This is the 4th event in the South East Asia Virtual Speaker Tour Series. This lecture will be delivered by Ts. Azizul Faiz Abd Aziz CEng MICE, head of unit (HOU) – Structure, Highway Asset Maintenance Management, PLUS Expressway.

PLUS is the largest highway concession and operator of highways in Malaysia. It expands throughout the peninsular of Malaysia, from the northern state of Perlis and Kedah to the southern state of Johor. It connects internationally from Thailand towards Singapore via the Tambak Johor and Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing.

Their major assets include various types of pavement, different spans of bridges, numerous types of drainages and large numbers of mixed slopes, inclusive of toll systems, mechanical and electrical equipment, signages, guardrails and highway services buildings.

With the overall aging of these assets after they were constructed in the early 1980’s, a strong, detailed, coordinated and effective asset management strategy is the main objective in retaining the service life and safety to public users.

This lecture will include key points about the periodic inspection of defaults, assessment analysis and remedial works planning. Explaining the remedial works, including the preventative measures or curing measures in general terms. Concluding that reducing the carbon footprint from the overall process of asset management strategy execution would be immensely impactful via the utilisation of advanced technological adaptation and process improvements.
