In 2020 the BTS embarked on updating the BTS/ICE Specification for tunnelling from its third edition, released in 2009. This presentation will illustrate the ever increasing role of sustainability and innovation in the tunnelling business and showcase how it has informed the review of the specification. Feedback from the industry and practical project experience have contributed to specific changes leading to more sustainable outcomes.
