This presentation will cover the design and construction of an upgrade to the Bristol to Bath Railway Path, which is the UK’s busiest section of the National Cycle Network. The project has improved a busy and important walking and cycling route through a well-loved urban greenspace. The key objectives of the project included minimising conflict between people walking and cycling as well as improving accessibility and reducing crime.

Following the community engagement phase, the improvements included path widening, new public spaces, junction and access changes and separating pedestrians and cyclists on key sections. The talk will outline how key challenges on the project were overcome, including adapting existing infrastructure, meeting the aspirations of the community and protecting ecology.
