Robert Knapman
Robert joined British Rail in 1988 as Trainman (G), the latest term for a guard. His career spans Intercity senior conductor, Network South East Conductor Leader, driver-only operations in charge of heavy cleaning gangs and maintaining stations for Thames and Chiltern during privatisation. He moved to South Wales joining Jeffrey Osborne’s limited as a contract’s supervisor maintaining buildings for Railtrack and later joined Dean and Dyball as contracts manager maintaining buildings and structures. When made redundant, he joined Network Rail managing Dean and Dyball. Robert currently provides health safety and environmental advice to eight managers covering 960 staff. Qualifications include HNC, HND, NVQ level VI and an MSc in safety engineering.
