Overview

This presentation will be a holistic review of the Congleton Link Road Project, including; the need for the project, the funding and procurement of the project by Cheshire East Council, the design and construction of the project and it’s challenges, and the lasting impact of the project on the community.

The £90m Congleton link road highways project, opened to traffic in April 2021.

The 5.5km Wolstenholme Elmy Way joins the A534 Sandbach Road to the west and the A536 Macclesfield Road to the north and the project included:

  • The creation of a new 5.5km single carriageway with eight new roundabout junctions
  • Excavation and relocation of more than 850,000 tonnes of earthworks
  • The laying of more than 100,000m2 of road and footpath asphalt
  • Installation of more than 25,000m of new drains;
  • Extensive landscaping – including the planned planting of 15,000 trees

The event is organised by CIHT with support from ICE Cheshire branch.
