Overview

From our transport systems to public spaces, inequality is deeply embedded into the fabric of our cities. While many social issues have been brought to light and are being addressed, too many people still experience the silent daily indignities of social injustice in all its variations.

Engineers have an essential role in creating a more equitable and just 'built world', and by extension society, through the choices we make. We can help to close these societal divides through the power of design.

As engineers, we have a responsibility to consider the impacts of our work and our technology. With urbanisation increasing, more and more people are becoming dependent on the built environment so we cannot underestimate the impacts we can have and how the role of engineers will change in society. We have the opportunity to advance social justice by designing to remedy social inequality and including the voices, experiences and perspectives of a diverse cross-section of people.

Join us for this panel organised by the ICE London GSN to explore the engineer's role in designing for social justice and equity.
