Overview

This WW&SCC GSAT ICE event is the first in a series of early careers attribute knowledge share sessions. The series invites experienced speakers to discuss their industry experience and how they have applied it to their IPD, demonstrating their competence to different attributes to their SCE and DE. Each speaker will cover one attribute per session.

Carl Miles will deliver a session on the Sustainability attribute, showing attendees how they can prove their competence against this attribute. Carl has worked on many Water and Highways schemes, covering ecological, social, stakeholder and environmental elements.

Carl Miles

Carl Miles is a BIM Manager, for Transport for Wales, having worked with in civil engineering for 17 years. His career started in 2005 as an Apprentice Technician for Atkins. During his earlier career, he studied part-time to gain an HNC and degree whilst working in the Water industry. Upon graduation, he worked as an Assistant Highways Engineer on the SWTRA and SWMWREC Frameworks and has worked on numerous large and small civil engineering schemes working both on site, in design office and seconded into client offices.

In his current role, he has been responsible for implementation of BIM compliance within Transport for Wales’ projects. This has helped the business to develop strategy and roadmap to have a foundation for their vision towards BIM Stage 2 maturity of their Infrastructure Assets.

He was the Secretary and Chair of the ICE Wales Cymru Graduate and Students Club in Swansea between 2012 and 2015. As an active STEM Ambassador, he has an enthusiasm for inspiring the next generation of engineers and promoting our industry.
