Overview

The ICE Bristol & Bath Early Careers Network host a webinar, exploring the processes involved with reducing the embodied carbon of civil engineering designs.

Dr Natasha Watson EngD CEng MICE, the UK Embodied Carbon Lead for Structures at Buro Happold, will introduce the importance of considering the embodied carbon of structures, as well explaining the key steps to measuring and reducing it within designs. With extensive experience in driving Buro Happold’s net zero commitments and upskilling her colleagues, Natasha can provide advice from an expert’s perspective in this important aspect of civil engineering design.

Following the talk, there will be a Q&A, so make sure you bring any questions you have about embodied carbon.

This webinar is open to anyone, whether you are a student, working in industry, or simply interested in making structures more sustainable.

Dr Natasha Watson

After completing her doctorate in low impact building materials in 2016, Natasha has become one of the experts leading the development of knowledge on the embodied impacts of construction materials within the industry as well as on Buro Happold projects.

As the UK Embodied Carbon Lead for Structures, Natasha’s goal is to develop and deliver advisory and consultancy services in embodied carbon over and above Buro Happold's own dedication to reducing embodied carbon as a company. This also includes upskilling her colleagues in their understanding of embodied carbon, primarily in its measurement and reduction.

As well as the technical aspects of tackling the climate emergency, she is interested in the wider issues around equity and unconscious bias in the built environment, as well as intersectional environmentalism.
