Overview

This webinar will walk you through the Shimna Flood Alleviation Scheme, from start to finish, demonstrating how it will alleviate the flood risk to affected properties, infrastructure and businesses in Newcastle, County Down.

Johnathan Carlisle (DfI Roads and Rivers) will examine why the scheme is needed and the current flood risks to Newcastle.

Edward Mason (AECOM) will provide an overview of the final proposed scheme after telling us about how the design was developed and the site-specific issues and other constraints encountered.

The final presentation will look at the construction phase. Gerard McColgan (DAWSON-WAM) will talk about the programme overview, how the scheme meets the project constraints and the key stakeholders’ technical approach. We will learn about the utilisation of DAWSON-WAM’s specialist piling equipment, the local community engagement that was undertaken and there will be an update on how the project is progressing to date.

This event is a joint meeting with Engineers Ireland.
