Overview

This 2022 update from Thames Tideway Tunnel’s Client, Project Manager and Main Works Contractor teams will provide an overview of specific challenges across project areas (West, Central and East), and the solutions implemented for their resolution.

Jim Avant is currently Delivery Director on Tideway which will protect the River Thames from increasing pollution caused by overflows from the Victorian era infrastructure network. Prior to Tideway, Jim was heavily involved on the London 2012 Olympic Programme and other major building and infrastructure Programmes in North America.

Alexei joined BMB as Carnwath Road Construction Manager in May 2020 responsible for the delivery of the Main Tunnel A secondary lining and delivery of the Main Tunnel B connection Tunnel, he is now Construction Director for BMB.

Stee is a chartered civil engineer with 30 years construction experience. Currently a Delivery Manager for Jacobs working on Tideway for 4 years, responsible the West section of the project including a 7 km section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel. Previously Programme Manager working for TfL on the £1bn Victoria Station and Tottenham Court Road Station Upgrade Projects.

Ania Gonzalez

Ania graduated at Gdansk University of Technology in 2008 and started her career in New Zealand as a Temporary Works Designer working for an international supplier RMD Kwikform. Following return to Europe, Ania joined Jacobs and the Tideway Engineering team in 2012. During the last 10 years Ania has been involved in the design for tender, tender evaluation, and design assurance after contract award. In 2019 Ania was appointed Project Manager for the King Edward Memorial Foreshore Park worksite and since then Ania has been working collaboratively with the Main Works Contractor to deliver works allowing to intercept the North Eastern Relief Sewer into the Tideway tunnel. In addition to that, Ania is a proud Mom of Alex (4) and Olivia (2).”

Jo Kujovic

Jo is the CVB Site Manager for King Edward Memorial Park Foreshore (KEMPF) which is one of the sites on the Thames Tideway (East) project. Jo has been on the Thames Tideway project for over 5 years and has overseen the construction of the temporary works cofferdam as well as the permanent works will which intercept and divert sewage and stormwater overflows away from the river Thames into the new ‘Super Sewer’. Jo is passionate about the difference the project will make to the health of the river Thames and ultimately the people of London once the project is complete and is looking forward to being a part of the final phase of the project which will ultimately see the ‘site’ handed back to the local community of Tower Hamlets.

Thomas Jones

Thomas is a Senior Engineer with a Civil’s background. He joined Tideway and the King Edward Memorial Park team in April 2020 prior to end of the Diaphragm walling phase of works. Thomas joined as part of the shaft team and has been planning, delivering, and managing all shaft and associated works since. Over the last twelve months part of his role has also been to deliver and now to manage the King Edward Memorial Park adit works alongside the rest of the shaft activities.

Phil has 20 Years experience of adding value to Projects, organisations, processes and systems. A professionally qualified Project Manager and Chartered Civil Engineer with experience in rail and construction environments in both the UK and Australia. For the last 4 ½ years have been part of the Programme Delivery team on the Tideway project, responsible for Systems Integration and Commissioning.

James Smith

James has been on the Thames Tideway project for just over 9 years, in several different roles across the programme starting as the Senior Project Manager for Kirtling Street, pre-DCO, to Deputy Programme Director now. However his involvement in Tideway started over 20 years ago, when James was the original Project Manager for the Strategic Study, from which the project was conceived. Consequently, James is passionate about seeing the project through to a successful conclusion, having been there at the start.
