Overview

The Thames Tideway, a £4.5 billion "super sewer," stands as a UK infrastructure success story that we can all be proud of. At a time when the UK’s infrastructure sector is grappling with rising costs, delays, and inefficiencies, what lessons can be learned from this success story?

The 25km tunnel, measuring 7.2m wide (the width of three London buses) and reaching depths of up to 67m, is designed to protect the River Thames for generations to come. The new sewer is now switched on and is preventing millions of tonnes of sewage from entering the river. This mega-project will significantly benefit the river and surrounding areas, safeguarding water quality and protecting marine life.

This event will explore how Tideway navigated the complexities of this challenging endeavour, addressing key considerations of time, cost, quality, and safety. Now nearing completion, it offers a unique opportunity to reflect on what it takes to successfully deliver a major, complex programme in the UK today.
