Overview

In 2016 Northumbrian Water Group NWG launched a £25M project to deliver two new Water Treatment Works (WTWs) in North Northumberland, at sites in Berwick and Wooler. The new WTWs replace old assets at the existing treatment works which were originally built in the 1960’s.

The two sites are currently at different stages of build/ commissioning/ handover with the scheduled operational takeover of the final site at Wooler scheduled for January 2023. This multi-disciplinary project provides insight into the NWG capital project delivery process. The project manager will also share lessons learned from several challenges that have been faced during project delivery.

Chris Austin

Chris Austin is a chartered civil engineer with over 25 years experience in the appraisal, design, construction and commissioning of engineering projects in the water and environment sectors in the UK. Chris brings experience with both client and consultancy organisations in the delivery of a broad range of projects and programmes spanning flood risk management, water and wastewater infrastructure. Chris currently leads Jacobs Water team in the North East of England and so brings a supply chain partner view of the environmental challenges faced by the sector both now and in the years ahead.
