Overview
This presentation will: set the context of digital transformation in UK infrastructure, present the high-level case for ‘digital retrofit’ and introduce the idea of applying the fourth industrial to infrastructure to enable a ‘cyber-physical system of systems’.
Conceptually, the case for Smart Infrastructure is very strong. In essence, integrated cyber/physical solutions offer a more cost-effective way of improving outcomes for people than do traditional constructed solutions alone.
However, relative to other industries such as finance, retail or media, the infrastructure industry has been slow to benefit from Digital Transformation, so something needs to change. And it won’t be enough to focus digital transformation only on the delivery new assets, we must also address ‘digital retrofit’ for the assets and systems that we already have. It’s time to apply the fourth industrial revolution to infrastructure.
