Overview

Keith Jones, Director ICE Wales Cymru, Emma Antrobus, Regional Director ICE North West, and Michelle Johnson MEng CEng FICE Technical Director WSP will talk about the necessary attributes and qualifications for becoming a Fellow of ICE. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions at the end of the presentation.

Keith Jones FICE

Keith is a Chartered Civil Engineer, Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of ICE. He has been in post since May 2008, prior to this he was Operational Manager Highways at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, responsible for all highway maintenance operations including management of the DSO contracting unit as well as Environmental Manager for the Council.

Keith was in Local Government from 1967 to 2008 holding a range of posts involving engineering, highways, infrastructure and drainage. Former Chairman of the County Surveyors Society Wales Engineering Committee and member of the UK Roads Board, advising Government on Highways issues.

He is a member of the Cross Party Groups on STEMM and Construction and Industrial Liaison Boards at Cardiff University and Swansea University.

Emma has been the North West Director of ICE since July 2018, overseeing the activity and budgeting for more than 6,500 members in the region. ICE has more than 95,000 members across the world in all sectors of engineering including transport, housing, development, energy and water.

Having done a business with manufacturing degree, Emma has spent most of her career working with and supporting businesses in all sectors towards improvement and change, with a focus on the engagement with and understanding of policy focusing on infrastructure projects including rebuilding Manchester city centre following the 1996 bomb, Northern Hub and HS2.

Michelle Johnson MEng CEng FICE

Michelle is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Municipal Water Director at WSP.  She holds a key leadership role within the organisation, responsible for the delivery of approximately 150+ projects at any one time.  Projects vary in complexity and size, up to £100M in value, on both water and wastewater treatment and network projects.  She leads teams on a number of frameworks for Water Industry Clients and Contractors.  Over her career she led multi-disciplinary design teams as both Project Director or Project Manager for water treatment, wastewater treatment and water distribution projects.

Michelle graduated with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds and has progressed from Assistant Consultant Engineer on a training programme into her current role as Technical Director for WSP.  She is passionate about driving change, making improvements and sharing best practice within organisations.  She sits on the Global Leadership Committee for WSP for water services.

Michelle is also an enthusiastic advocate for collaboration and is recognised as a positive role model in the Water Industry.  She has worked extensively with local schools on initiatives such as the National Women in Engineering Day and promoted apprenticeship training schemes to encourage diversity within the sector.
