About this event

ICE 200 UK Delegation and Japan Delegation 2019 were successfully held in November 2018 and March 2019 respectively. Following the delegations, the delegates will be sharing the knowledge and experience they learnt through the delegations in this dissemination seminar.

While the two delegations highlighting the importance of sustainability and resilience, Drainage Services Department of the HKSAR has promulgated the adoption of sustainable and resilient drainage design concepts. Major changes have been incorporated in the latest edition of Stormwater Drainage Manual (fifth edition). The changes include review on rainfall analysis and sea level analysis, consideration of climate change and promotion of blue-green concept in drainage infrastructure.

After the presentation by the delegates, Mr Leung Cheuk Lun from the Drainage Services Department will give a presentation on “Resilience Defines Our Future”. The presentation will provide experience sharing on the practical adoption of “Sponge City” concept in Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme. It will also discuss the concept of resilient in design of drainage works and options or works being studied by the Drainage Services Department to transform engineered channels into revitalised rivers.

Mr Leung Cheuk Lun

Leung Cheuk Lun

Mr Leung Cheuk Lun joined SWK upon graduation in 1981. He initially gained seven years of experience in civil engineering and geotechnical works in the Tuen Mun New Town development. He then joined Winter Associates, an engineering consultant based in Toronto, Canada in 1988 for major infrastructural developments, including stormwater planning and design of 3rd runway of the Lester B Pearson International Airport.

Since he joined Drainage Services Department in 1993, he has been involved in drainage master plan study, planning, design and construction of engineering infrastructures and major flood control projects to address various flooding blackspots in Hong Kong. These projects include flood storage scheme in Happy Valley and Sheung Wan, major river improvement works in Tai Po, Fanling, Sheung Shui, San Tin, Yuen Long and village flood protection schemes in Pok Wai and Chuk Yuen.

Currently, he involves in the investigation study for proposed drainage improvement works in Mongkok and Tai Po, which addresses the effects of climate changes and resilient design options.
