ICE to ballot members ahead of compulsory CPD recording

ICE is to ballot members on changes to by-laws to accommodate an Engineering Council requirement for all members to record their CPD.

CPD: members must record their CPD and be available for audit from next January
CPD: members must record their CPD and be available for audit from next January

With effect from 2019 the Engineering Council, which licenses ICE to operate as a Professional Engineering Institution (PEI), requires all PEIs to ensure that their members’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is recorded and available for audit as required.

The requirement to undertake CPD has been in place for many years. However, from January 2019 it is mandatory for the CPD undertaken to be formally recorded.

The platform on which CPD is recorded remains the member’s choice.  A host of resources are available on the ICE website should members seek support with their CPD recording.

In order for ICE to manage effectively the Engineering Council’s new requirement ICE Council is proposing amendments to the by-laws which include a change to the definition of CPD and a new admission, training and qualification regulation which sets out the new CPD protocols.

Members will be asked to approve 2 resolutions in relation to the CPD changes in the ballot which also contains a number of other resolutions including proposed changes to the ICE governance structure.

ICE Council has recommended as critical that members vote in favour of the resolutions in order for ICE to continue to be licensed by the Engineering Council.

The ballot will take place between 1 June and 10 July this year.
