Civil engineering students in Hong Kong have been called to enter the annual Model Building Competition, which aims to test their technical knowledge and creativity.

The theme this year is “Introducing and demonstrating earthquake engineering research”.

Participants will have to build a model made of Balsa wood within a given time limit. The model will be tested by applying loads on the building, on an earthquake simulating machine.

As part of the competition, the teams will also need to give a presentation to explain the engineering behind the model they build. Four cash prizes will be awarded, up to HKD2500 for the winning team.

The deadline for applications is Saturday 10 November 2018.

The competition will take place on Saturday 19 January 2019.
