Overview

Inspired by the ICE London ECNet’s debate series, The Big Questions Debate, hosted by the ICE United Arab Emirates Early Careers Network (ECNet), brings together student and graduate members for an online competition exploring the theme “Are engineers in control?”. This event examines how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping engineering practice and the ethical responsibilities that accompany it.

Paired student–graduate teams debate assigned motions, present structured arguments, and respond to questions from a judging panel, encouraging critical thinking about the future of technology in civil engineering. As Ethics is one of the ICE’s mandatory CPD themes, the debate offers a valuable opportunity for early‑career members to deepen their understanding of this essential area.

Open to ICE Student and Graduate Members in the UAE, with attendees welcome from across the MENA region and beyond, the event supports Continuing Professional Development and strengthens the growing ICE Early Careers Network community.

Special thanks to the ICE UAE annual sponsors: AECOM, AtkinsRéalis, CARES, and Maccaferri for supporting this debate and the young generation of civil engineers.
