Membership support and guidance
Whether you're just beginning your studies or an apprenticeship in civil engineering, are working towards a professional qualification, or are operating at the top of the profession, you'll find advice and guidance to help you.
ICE membership
ICE offers membership grades for everyone working and studying in the built environment. In the early stages of your career? Join as a student or graduate member. Further on in your career? ICE Fellowship, the highest grade of membership, recognises the significant contribution you’ve made to society.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships in the UK are a recognised pathway to achieving professional excellence. They allow individuals to earn while they learn and equip employers with a skilled workforce, and you can get a professional qualification too.
Initial professional development (IPD)
In the early stages of your career, you need to complete IPD formally before you can apply for the incorporated or the chartered professional review, or the chartered professional review progressive.
Further on in your career?
Your IPD may already be at the required level, but we need to check it before you can apply for the incorporated or chartered professional review.
Academic base not at the level you need to formally complete IPD?
You might need to consider Experiential Learning, or the Further Learning Exam first or you could consider the Technical Report Route
Professional Review
Once you have completed all the stages and have the ability, you can apply for your professional review.
Becoming a specialist
To develop your career, you may want to enhance your skills in specialist areas. See what options are available.
Recognition
Already professionally qualified with another EC-licensed organisation or elsewhere? You may be able to use a recognition route.
