Meet a Chartered Manager

William Duncan

After becoming a Chartered Engineer in 2016, William Duncan wanted to demonstrate his management abilities and gain Chartered Manager status. Joining National Grid in 2012, he now manages budgets in excess of £100 million.

I mainly work on the transport elements of proposed developments, but occasionally also on large public sector infrastructure projects. It’s been exciting to play a part in the Crossrail Bond Street Station, the Shard and the London Bridge Station regeneration developments.

The greatest benefit of becoming a Chartered Manager is becoming a more dynamic, more rounded and a more flexible leader. It’s now easier to see the skills and abilities I have. Also, to have the opportunity to this new world of training and networking events that helps you to sharpen your skills and really improve as a leader.

How will my employer benefit?

Chartered managers are a great investment. Employers can rely on them to be consistent in everything they do.

They work to a high standard, and play a key part in delivering objectives, putting theory into practice and driving organisations forward.

Chartered managers can also help to win business, by providing quality assurance to potential clients when tendering bids.
