Overview
Standing Tall and rising above the historical site of Malaysia’s independence, the Merdeka 118 Tower also known as “KL 118” is an iconic landmark featuring its futuristic and symbolic design embracing the diverse culture and the legacy of Malaysia independence. The distinctive design harmonising with the adjacent heritage buildings such as, Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara, serving as a main catalyst to revitalise the heritage district into a modern landmark weaving into the fabric of Kuala Lumpur Skyline.
This iconic tower is designed with a mixture of diamond shaped facets derived from a traditional Malay songket pattern celebrating the cultural diversity and traditional legacy of Malaysia. The silhouette of the tower's spire symbolises the iconic image of the outstretched hand of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj when he proclaimed independence at Stadium Merdeka in 1957.
The Merdeka 118 Tower is a super-structure building with 118 floors including five underground basements. Within 292,000m2 of GFA, the tower consists of 83 floors of office space, 17 floors of luxury hotel managed by the Hyatt Group, retail, observation deck floors, and a spire rising to more than 160 meter to bring Merdeka 118 to a total height of 640 meter, thus claiming as the tallest building in Malaysia, and the second tallest building in the world.
The aim of this presentation is mainly to share engineering knowledge covering largely on the advancement in structural engineering, innovative design in construction methodology, and addressing the creative solutioning for some technical challenges faced during the early stage of this landmark development.
