Hartlepool Railway Station is currently the busiest single-platform railway station in the UK. Mott MacDonald – assisted by architects Western Williamson & Partners – are working in partnership with Tees Valley Combined Authority, Network Rail, Story Contracting and other key industry stakeholders.
The proposed solution includes the reinstatement of the former southbound platform to modern standards, new canopy structure and a new footbridge linking the reinstated platform to the main part of the station. Real time Customer Information screens (CIS), Long Line Public Address (LLPA) and associated CCTV and signage are also to be installed for the new platform.
Social value is a key aspect that the Client is keen to include in the project. Mott MacDonald with Story Contracting were delighted to be able to deliver a week of work experience to local students, as well as other programmes such as promoting local skills and supporting growth of responsible regional business.
