Overview
Join the ICE West Midlands Regional Chair, Gbenga Oludotun, for the next event in his Chair's Programme. Sam Uren, Engineering Director at SLC Rail, will cover how this award-winning station was created and how sustainability was at the heart of the design and delivery of the project.
Rail patronage in Worcestershire was behind the national average, with CrossCountry rail services going through Worcestershire without stopping and insufficient car parking at key Worcester stations. Due to the potential positive impact on economic growth, Worcestershire County Council held aspirations to build a new parkway station and undertook one of the most complex infrastructure projects in its history.
In this presentation, Sam will talk about how SLC Rail worked with Worcestershire County Council to create a station, which went on to win both Large Project and Geotechnical Awards and was crowned the Overall Winner at the ICE West Midlands ICE Awards in 2020. She will also discuss the design, the ecology of the site, how BIM helped with the design interface and how the station considered many environmental factors throughout the project.
