ICE’s Edinburgh Area Branch (EAB) are delighted to launch the premiere Bob McLeod Workshop!
Named in honour of Robert (Bob) McLeod, this event aims to give civil engineering students valuable insights into the profession, with opportunities for networking.
The event will begin with a selection of short presentations from industry professionals, followed by the opportunity to network and visit a selection of stalls.
Bob was one of the longest-standing committee members of the EAB, joining the branch in 2007 before later becoming chairman from 2010 to 2012.
He attended George Watson's College in Edinburgh on a scholarship and later studied Civil Engineering at the University of Edinburgh before working for Arup for his whole career, lasting 35 years.
Bob worked in Edinburgh, London and Newcastle and was an early user of computers in pioneering work for finite element analysis in North Sea oil rig design. Bob's father, Robert McLeod OBE, was the first Principal of Telford College, now part of Edinburgh College, with Bob and his family endowed the McLeod Memorial Fund for students at the College in financial need.
While a part of the committee, Bob was a valuable member in helping to deliver both the branch lecture programme and contributing to topics on governance of the ICE, especially in his time as chair. In the years that followed his tenure as chair, he was especially keen to promote younger civil engineers on the Committee, and his influence showed in the line of chairs who succeeded him after his own year in 2010.
