Join the ICE Exeter City Club for a guided visit to the Centre for Resilience in Environment, Water and Waste (CREWW). The centre is a purpose-built research facility at the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus, bringing together expertise from environmental, analytical, computational and engineering disciplines to address complex challenges facing the water sector, environmental systems and wider society.
CREWW is a joint venture between the University of Exeter and South West Water, supporting research into how natural resources can be managed sustainably and resiliently in response to pressures such as climate change, population growth, pollution, wastewater quality, leakage and long-term water resilience. The facility was opened in 2024 and forms part of a major partnership investment in environmental and water-sector research, bringing together academics, industry specialists and advanced research facilities under one roof.
The visit will provide attendees with an overview of the CREWW facility, including the design and purpose of the building and the sustainability and carbon reduction principles incorporated into its development. The session will explore how the centre has been designed to encourage multidisciplinary collaboration, supporting work across environmental monitoring, analytical science, computational modelling and engineering research.
Participants will be introduced to a range of specialist research facilities, including laboratories focused on environmental monitoring, microplastics, drone technologies and advanced chemical analysis. The visit will highlight how different scientific and engineering approaches are integrated to understand the interconnected factors that influence environmental quality, resource management, ecosystem health and public wellbeing.
The tour will also include CREWW’s analytical laboratories, demonstrating how environmental data is generated, interpreted and applied using modern instrumentation and computational tools.
