Available for members who live in the UK or Ireland, the popular service will run for a limited six‑month period.
After listening to member feedback, the ICE Benevolent Fund (Ben Fund) has relaunched its free will writing service in partnership with the National Free Wills Network.
The popular service will run for a limited six‑month period and, for the first time, is available to ICE members living in the Republic of Ireland.
All ICE members, along with their partner or spouse, who live in the UK or Ireland can use the service.
Former members, and their partner or spouse, who held membership for at least five years are also eligible.
When the service last ran, more than 1,500 ICE members took advantage of the opportunity.
Why members should consider using the service
Writing a will can feel daunting, but it remains one of the most important steps members can take to protect their wishes.
Despite this, research shows that around 70% of adults in the UK still do not have a will in place, risking their estate becoming subject to the laws of intestacy.
If members or their partners or spouses are among this number, now is an ideal time to make use of this offering.
What does the will-writing service entail?
Members will meet with a solicitor near them to set down their wishes for what will happen to their money, belongings, property and pets when they are no longer around. They can also nominate who they’d like to handle their affairs.
These meetings can be in person, or remote.
The service provides a free standard will.
If your will is deemed as a complex will, the standard element will remain free, but you may need to pay for the complex element. A complex will might include:
- Tax advice in connection with large estates and Inheritance Tax
- Overseas property or assets
- Business ownership
- Discretionary or living trusts
There is no expectation to leave a legacy to the Benevolent Fund.
