Over 67% of those who voted supported the move.
ICE members have voted in favour of introducing the title of Chartered Infrastructure Engineer in a ballot which saw a record turnout with 17.6% of eligible members casting their vote.
This has been the product of a long and deep consultation with our membership.
ICE President Ed McCann said: "I am delighted that members have voted to introduce the new Chartered Infrastructure Engineer title and that turnout was double what we would expect for our usual ballot. This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden our membership to welcome suitably qualified engineers working across infrastructure globally.
"I look forward in due course to welcoming infrastructure professionals, all of whom will have been rigorously assessed and who will ensure that our institution can rightly call itself a home for all infrastructure professionals.
The Trustees are grateful to those who took the time to vote."
Privy Council approval
Introducing the new title requires changes to the institution’s Royal Charter and By-laws, which need approval by the Privy Council.
This has been informally given already and we shall now go through the formalities.
