Overview
Join the ICE Early Careers Network East Midlands for a site visit to a new flood alleviation scheme in Derby city centre.
The Derby Riverside scheme is approximately 1km of new flood defences designed to protect around 670 properties and commenced in May 2025. The £35M project is the second phase of the Our City, Our River project, a scheme led by Derby City Council on behalf of the Environment Agency. The project follows previous flood defence schemes and aims to extend protection to a further part of the city.
The scheme is in a busy city-centre site and uses a variety of piling techniques, combined with reinforced-concrete walls. Extensive demolition and utility diversions have also taken place.
This site visit is a great opportunity for graduates, students and apprentices interested in learning more about structures and flood alleviation.
