This session explores the supervisor’s role within the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC), specifically in the context of bridge inspection and maintenance. The presentation element concentrates on the practical responsibilities and challenges faced by supervisors on live infrastructure projects, conveying a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and collaboration during the construction phase of a project.
Using a major highway bridge maintenance scheme as the central case study, the presentation highlights how Supervisors can foster collaborative relationships with contractors and resolve conflicts constructively, all while maintaining mutual trust and respect in accordance with the contract.
Key themes that will be covered include: the supervisors responsibility monitoring compliance with the scope, managing delegated responsibility and promoting positive health and safety practises through proactive engagement. The supervisor’s role in facilitating sustainable practices and maintaining project momentum during change events is also addressed, demonstrating how effective communication and adaptability contribute to successful project outcomes.
This presentation is designed to provide insights for engineering professionals interested in or who currently are working on NEC4 ECC Contracts. As a pre-requisite, attendees will be required to have a basic understanding of NEC4 ECC Contracts.
The session is hybrid, allowing ICE members to attend virtually or in person at a venue in Swansea (Swansea University TBC).
Catering will be provided after the presentation, along with the opportunity for professionals to network.
The presentation will last approximately 25 minutes (allowing 5 min ICE/ TEG introduction, with Q&A for 10 minutes followed by the networking session / catering).
