Overview

This webinar presents recent advances in the research and application of high‑strength steel in Chinese Mainland, with emphasis on high‑performance steel and steel–concrete composite structures. Topics include modular construction, ultra‑high‑performance concrete -filled steel tubular members, and constitutive and ductile fracture models for high‑strength steel under complex loading and fire. The webinar will also show how these outcomes have informed two China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization (CECS) design codes and landmark projects. The webinar will further outline challenges and future directions for safe and efficient use of high strength steel.

Note:

  • Registration will be confirmed on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority given to ICE HKA members.
  • Only successful applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail.
  • Attendance certificates will be provided after 2 weeks of the event only if attendees attend the whole event.
  • The above is subject to change without prior notice

Technical Report Prize

The event is designated by the HKA committee and is eligible for the Technical Report Prize. ICE HKA awards prizes to ICE members who reside in Hong Kong and prepare reports of a high standard on the caption technical event. Winners will be given a prize of HK$800.

Dr Wang Yan-Bo

Dr Yan-Bo Wang is currently a Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Structural Engineering at Tongji University, China. He is a winner of the National Youth Talent Program, a member of the Expert Committee of China Steel Structure Association, and the deputy secretary-general of the Fire Protection and Anti-corrosion Branch of China Steel Structure Association, and an active member in the National Research Centre for Prefabricated Construction which is supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China (MOST).

His principal research interests lie in the areas of high-performance steel and composite structures and constitutive model of advanced constructional materials. These include modular construction, high-strength steel structures, ultra-high-performance concrete-filled steel tubular structures, ductile fracture model of high strength steel, constitutive model of steel tube confined UHPC, and fire engineering. The research achievements were adopted by two CECS design codes and were directly applied to the design and construction of some key projects such as the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). According to the above research achievements under the financial supports of Five granted projects by the National Science Funding Council and Ministry of Science and Technology, he has published 2 technical books (one in English published by Elsevier) and over 100 journal papers (including 60 ranked as JCR Q1) and 20 EI papers. He has received several awards, including an outstanding winner and a first prize of China Steel Structure Association Science and Technology Award, the second prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Anhui Provence, China, the first prize for National Design and Innovation Competition of Prefabricated Steel Structure Building, Outstanding Achievement Award of doctoral dissertation in Shanghai, and ranked among the World's Top 2% Scientists since 2022 published by Stanford University.
